Give Solutions, Not Reasons!

I overheard a couple of people talking during my lone travel in bus yesterday…

“Oh that girl must’ve dressed provocatively…”

“Oh… Why should a girl travel late at night…?”

“Arrgh... They all should be hanged…”

Apart from the last one, I was quite taken aback by these comments; I still couldn’t make out what provocatively dressed means, because what you get to see depends on what you are looking for. So, blaming attire for someone’s pervert-like behavior is not only plan stupid justification; but also basic violation of rights towards one half of our society.

Again, travelling late I just can’t stop getting amazed at the stupidity of the people saying this. You travel late, you get raped is not the impression you should leave about the largest democratic county. It is questioning the basic freedom of our country, so we fought for freedom and call this it? Instead of telling girls to stay home after sunset, why can’t you educate boys to behave? I still don’t understand how can a seedha saadha boy-next-door can turn into a beast post sunset? The monstrous instinct towards women should be curbed. Mass media should be used to educate that women aren’t objects or targets for anyone’s temperamental problems.

Law, weak law, toothless law… Yes it has been called all that and much more. But, I don’t understand why we need law to specifically to tell you to behave when we oppose moral policing. I would like to remind everyone that we are no animals to have an instructor and a lasso to keep reminding us and asking us to behave. I don’t understand… You worship them as Goddess, You are born to a Mother, You grow up with a Sister; Still you turn into a monster became they are dressed “provocatively” and are travelling late? Asking law and police to control such behavior is impossible because law can’t tame animals and criminals always outnumber police men.

I write this as a brother, a friend and a future daddy. I am worried sick if my sister is going out with her friends. I am even more worried when my friend is travelling in public transport late after her work. I am still clueless about the answer I will have to give my daughter if she asks “Where’s my freedom papa?” and this is not the society I want my girl or any girl to grow up in.

I want an equally free, fair world for my sister, friend and my daughter!

WInds of Change?

We don't talk like we used to anymore...

We don't leave home with a smile on our face...

We prefer ping over a text and reply to neither...

We prefer to work over lunch with friends...

We have coffee with team...

We don't bother our friend is waiting because our boss wanted us to complete the "task"...

We see our parents asleep, eating or waiting for us at doorstep...

We don't listen to the voices from our heart shaped box anymore...

We don't have time to thank The Almighty...

We don't dream anymore...

We don't have hobbies...

We classify love as hobby of the jobless...

We seldom express affection...

We believe fake smiles, seldom the real concerns...

I never knew one lunch would bring so many changes (No.. my stomach is just fine!)... Or is it just my eyes.. Either way... It bothered me just the same to write again when I made up mind not to ever again!
Earlier it used to be us fighting to walk through the canteen door all together... Now... It's just me waiting with an empty stomach and pain filled heart debating whom to choose: Food or Friend.. And still waiting for you to come!

Earlier it used to be us talking, commenting or just laughing... Now you want to listen to your memories with your "office friends"... But I don't have any to share... The only friends I have in office is you!
Earlier free messages weren't just enough to talk... We often used to run out of them... Now... You want me to ping or mail you.. Which is often lost in your work!

Earlier when I wanted to talk to you about anything... Now I have to check your calendar!
All of these maybe normal work life chores to you... For me it isn't... You have your "team" to go for break with... I prefer to go for a break with my friends... Because I am used to that way!

Often I come across as short tempered, irritated and at times plain angry... You thought it was you whom I am angry on... I am fuming at the changes around you... The changes which made me almost a loner..!!
Is being alive living... I don't think so... Enjoying the journey is... You didn't sit quietly in a corner during school or college tour... Did you?

I write this not to ask you to change things... But to ask you not to leave me alone in this place!

Heart: More than just pumping blood!

You say orange juice comes from oranges... I say oranges are full of juices...

You will see exactly what you are looking for... I known overused cliche... But true story!

So... Why do you want to see what everyone else wants to?

The difficulty of being yourself cannot be experienced by anyone... All others see is their expectation... Their dreams... Not yours!

So, they will unfair to you... Tear you down... Compare you with their expectation of what you ought to be!

But, listen to your heart... And you will have a story to tell!

Don't listen to your heart because it merciless falls in love... Because the day your heart stops working... Life seizes!

Loner`s Love Letter!

When I walk into a crowded place... I search for you... No.. This can't be...
Whenever I hear your name I smile... No... This can't be...
When you smile.. My world brightens... But... No... This can't be...
When your eyes speak more than your lips... I understand every word... No... This can't be...

When you don't talk to me... My day just doesn't start... But this can't be...
When I see you... My heart starts doing a drumroll... But this can't be...
When I am alone... I can't help but pray that you call... But this can't be...
When that fringe falls on your face...  I can't stop admiring... But this can't be...
When the breezes gently passes you... I can't stop admiring the way you put your hair back in place..  But this can't be...
When some guy talks to you... I can't help but feel lost... But this can't be..

I have a zillion pictures of you in my heart shaped box... This has to be...
I practice before talking to you... This has to be...
I feel good when I see a random message from you... This has to be...
Whenever you speak of another guy... I can't help but feel jealous... This is...
A voice inside my head always keeps me reminding of you... Our times... This is...
I don't mind travelling light years to say a Hi to you... But that one step away from you seems the hardest... This is...
If I hear a song, I can't help but imagine singing it to you... This is...

Funny... How you make everything look uninteresting and make me feel lonely among my own friends without you... This is.... Love!

I don't want anything in return.... Just keep this heart shaped box of mine with you.... Forever!

If I...

If I start describing her, I am afraid the language would fall in love with her!

If I say she is the most beautiful person on face of earth, I would be blamed of being modest!

If I say her laugh brings sunshine, the Penguins would want her!

If I say her eyes put Picaso's art to shame, the Goddess of art will nod in agreement!

If I write down the words she speaks, poets would be put to shame!

If I say how sweet she speaks, kukoo birds would never sing!

If I say her hair dances to the tune of wind, Mother Nature would make it a breezy day just to watch that!

If I say anything more, You'll fall in love with her... Just like me!

Life: As You Like It!

I sit back and write this down wondering what did I learn to make a life... how did I learn to survive. No, that one word says it all.

I did mistakes, learned from them; that`s one rule life reigns you with, strangely life lasts for very little while so you got to be careful!

But it also gives you time to make most of it, create memories; arriving late and making friend wait for an hour in the hot sun, find that one girl who makes you forget the world, watch that happiness in your parents` eyes when you get your first salary (which is obviously a joke!), pose stupidly in the mirror, imitate your favourite superhero, sing in the rain.

Life did not come with a how-to manual, it never had one; because life is what you want it to be!

It is not only the good ones that make it worthwhile, also the bad ones; it is because of them you came to know who the true ones were.

So, thank them.. Yes, even the ones who were pure evil with you..!

Life gives you two choices, and it is not the one you have taken which hurts; it is the one which you did not choose hurts..

So, listen to your heart.. better than being sorry on missing out..!!

Take no sh!t from anyone, because your life did not come with any instruction manual.

So, taking advice on how/what/why to live is plainly stupid; it is like following the instruction manual of an electric cooker to run a helicopter, it will prove to be disastrous!

Your life is your balancing act, how and when you balance depends on you, keep your priorities right, stretch all you can but never fall (failing is different from falling!)

And importantly laugh at yourself; being cynical is the single most destructive thing you can do!

People will tell you we are living in this place and that is better, the quality of the place is dependent on who is looking at it; and that applies to every aspect of life!

At any time, Be ready to standup for what you think is right, pursue on things you like however hard it seems, learn a new art.

Always be ready to lend a helping hand and when you need one... Mine will be the first one!

And.. Like Bon Jovi does it...When World gets on your face.. Say.. Hey.. Have a nice day!

Indian Women: Beaten, bruised but not out!

India has got its Independence from the British in the year 1947, you all know that. What you didn`t know was that: Only Indian Men got that, Indian Women; atleast most of them did not get complete Independence or Freedom!

I am still disturbed by the fact that World`s most beautiful Women live under the mercy and sometimes wimps and fancies of so called "superior beings". One more recent survey also revealed that Indian Women are most stressed; god, it is smile which we should see on these beautiful faces not frowns. Sadly, only the latter is happening in the real world.

You would want to know why I am writing all this: A College pass out, a girl who had dreams, a lady who could`ve been gone to become and achieved whatever she wanted to was killed in broad daylight in a bus stop by none other than her ex-fiancĂ©e. Barbarism would be too subtle to term this act. I was shocked and disgusted by reading the above incident; a murder in broad daylight in a bus stop - even a butcher would not do that!

The above incident disturbed me, I couldn`t let it go calling it "news". I am not going to put a black cloak on with a magnifying glass in my hands and start investigating. I want to address a basic few issues that have grown with us with time - Men forcing their views on Women, not only views, choices, what to, what not to and at times even food!

Basic violation of Human rights are at times classified as tussle between a couple and under that cover more than just a few atrocities happen - in a word: Unpardonable!

I remember my mother telling me, Men and Women are just the same deep down; just that Women think twice, men don`t think at all!. My point is not to offend Men; my point was to demonstrate that we are wired differently and thus the differences!

Imagine what this world would look like without Women- Men would be at the edges of their chair waiting for a fight, Smelly Socks, Dresses made out of two colours: Black and White, No Hindi Movies, No Romantic Heroes and importantly - No Poets or Poems!

I remember hearing about women who tolerate basic violation of Human rights just because they are women. I beg to differ on these views, fight for your rights for you deserve them. You don`t have to put with anything you don`t want to just because your gender is female, no law or constitution of the country says that!

To the Men all around, Machoism is not in hitting your lady; it is from saving any one from doing so. You are physically strong than your female counterpart, that doesn`t mean you should overpower her choices and views. She is supposed to be treated gentlemanish way, make her smile, treat her warmly… For even woman deserves to be treated like a princess!

I know I will get a lot of criticism for this, but all I would want the next generation boys/guys/dudes (whatever you call yourself) to treat all women with equal respect and give them their freedom back. Be a man, do the right thing!

You are not a guy if you display your physical strength against a weaker being... So... Who are you?

Letter to a friend!

I sit here lost in a land of computers, huge buildings, tons of people, I find myself alone even in such crowd (or should I say people?!?). I come from a land which had small buildings, less people; But, we were all a family, we cared for each other; atleast we did not lock ourselves up in our houses when our neighbour was ill. Coming from such place to a place which doesn`t give a sh!t is scaring, rather disgusting. I don`t blame them, one should never be spoonfeeded to be selfish, that leaves us only with such kind of society!

I had friends back in home, school, college and after that, true we did not have expensive clothes and money to spend; but something kept us together and happy; Here I am finding myself among people who assume you are a fool, if you are nice and you are bothersome, if you ask for things you want!

I am surrounded by very little number of friends in a place which has abundant of fake smiles, backstabbers, opportunist and people who want your company only as long as you have something in return for them. I believe life is not a barter of things, even if you barter only thing given and received should be love. I am still in a state of shock, they give you everything except that in barter here. It is as if I am living in a world made out of plastic!

I still hear my Mom`s voice echoing, "World has only two types of people: Good and Bad". But, she did not tell me about this category, I am not sure even if they are one; They are both good and bad, good if they want something from you and bad if you have nothing in return to you!

I don`t want to sound all dark and pessimistic about this place. Life is wonderful, I am writing this letter in the hope that you don`t get it ruined falling in the wrong hands, for the one who is a friend always finds a reason to be with you and the one who isn`t will find a reason to not be with you!

The one who talks to you, cracks jokes in office with you are your colleagues.. the one who cracks jokes at you, tells you "you look ugly", steals your lunch, gives hi5 when you fail and doesn`t say they are busy to you is a FRIEND..!

And lastly, Remember not to judge a book by its cover!

I hope you don`t need to look at my email id to recognize who is writing this!

Hobbies: Food for soul

Let me start off by recalling what Picasso said "Every Child is an artist, The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."

My love for blogs, or for that matter writing whatever I feel like started a long ago; I remember it confining to my journals. Later, a friend of mine started writing short stories; I enjoyed reading them, but I enjoyed writing even more. Then, I realised "Maybe this is what I was asked by The Almighty to do"; that did not mean I should give up whatever I do for a living and start writing. It can be a hobby, pursued right out of interest. I strongly believe it is only interest which gets the best out of us even today, otherwise Sylvester Stallone need not train, Saina Nehwal need not play shuttle anymore, Sachin should have given up years ago.. They did not.. Neither should you!

Getting back to hobbies, this can be weirdest, wackiest hobby; but I insist you pursue it even if the world tears you down with responsibilities. You have and you work for so many hours a day, end result: you get salary; and with salary you buy food, clothes, gifts and whatever you can afford. So, all this don`t go deep down -Your Soul. Soul is that entity which cannot understand rules, which believes in art and which makes you unique. Hobby can be a form of art which soothes you, which you enjoy doing and once you stop that you turn into a machine - turn on go.. turn off sleep!

So, your job gets you food for your body. Make sure you feed your soul, art, creativity is food for your soul. And without food soul will perish and all that remains is a corpse!

Continue being that artist you were.. And we both know you are one!

Festival Greetings!

It feels good to start off a blog on a festival.. because I have something nice to say and can start off on a positive note!

Onam ashamagal!

You all know the story of King Bali and Onam celebration started. So, I will skip that part. I got a little deep down when my friend said “Today`s Onam!”; it struck me somewhere, Why? Why do we celebrate festivals?
To answer that, I didn`t use Google; I rather started guessing.. Our Ancestors were clever and rather gifted with “Nostradamus” sight. They knew we would need a number to denote nothing they gave us 0. They knew we would have to travel, we were given the wheel. They knew we will need to look good, clothes, cosmetics (we still use the herbals soaps.. don`t we??).  They knew we need company to put up with us after a certain stage of life, marriage system knocked in (no debates on this please!).

To sum it up, in some way or the other a couple of things which help us who we are copyrighted to them. So, why festivals?. Yes, what do we usual do on a festival? We make sweets, feel happy, distribute joy along with sweets, meet long lost friends and relatives, and travel back to home town.  Maybe, this is exactly what they wanted us to do!

Our ancestors knew in future, this fellow being will be lost and just surviving not living. So, they wanted us to allot sometime for living our life. They knew that life wasn`t a checklist of acquaintances, to verify with and go on; even if is so, should be a counter of number of smiles you caused. They wanted us to spend some time living, with friends, laugh, eat sweets (despite your diet!).

I would rather be pragmatic about this, we can live every day; by that I don`t mean take off and eat sweets every day. It takes not only sweets and holidays to celebrate, rather a set of smile things which costs us nothing. A smile at your fellow co-workers, A thank you to your bus driver when you get down at your stop, A  pat on your friends` back when they are going through a bad day could mean a festival like feel-good factor to them and will work for you as well. For, life`s a celebration.. isn`t it?

The above were my views on the concept of Festival not just onam but every festival in existence, I would love to hear from you what festivals mean to you and how we can make everyday a festival and importantly live. For, we can make our ancestors feel that we are celebrating everyday of life!
